To sort of hope we go down , now don’t get me wrong I never ever want to witness a loss for rovers and to go down it will be mentally painful , and if rovers were to get a win on the last game of the season and stay up would be euphoric, but if we go down and when the fog lifts and it’s sunk in and it’s Easter next year and we have played the twin fixtures and hopefully and most probably been competitive in both it would make a huge change from busting a gut and getting nothing out of the derby and then following it up with a hammering on the Monday (check last 4 years) now I am not saying for a minute we would bounce straight back up but I would hope to compete at the top end of a league instead of our super league offerings of late.
There are some benefits of relegation the long (rumoured) 6 figure deals to players like oakes and mulhearn could be ripped up, now don’t get me wrong on mulhearn ,heart of 2 lions but alas (I don’t know if it’s to do with going vegan) the strength of a mouse in the collision, and Oakes gives it his best. I just feel winning feels a lot better than losing and let’s be honest we are not good enough to play week in week out with these big boys , does any one agree?

Come on Rovers, pull your fingers out. Lets face it, if Rovers stay up there is a lot more revenue for both clubs. No disrespect to London ,but the intake at the turnstiles comes nowhere near.

Hi Barton, one of my most balanced and friendly dark side posters , Derby’s are revenue generating but I go to watch a competitive game and the last few years ?

We won 2 out of 3 this year but I do agree we play to many to enjoy now

True, but come on, following either team is not easy, we do it because we want to. I wouldn`t want it any other way. The derbies are special to me. Bit of banter in the drinking establishment beforehand, the feeling of elation / deflation after the game. I would miss that. Do agree with Someday, two games would be enough.

No I do not want us to go down. I want to stay up. SL is where we should be. The club is more than big enough to compete and thrive. Sometimes(and it,s certainly happened to us)the fates conspire against you with bad luck, poor ref calls(Danny Broughs ghost drop goal)when it really matters, playing teams who suddenly have their best players fit to face us, and crippling injuries to our key players.
I know, all teams can say the same, but I really do think we have been affected more than most. I am biased, but that,s how I see it.
No doubt very average recruitment has had a major impact on our recent seasons, there is no denying that, but once you are in the lower half, players you really need don,t want to come, and the cycle continues.
The frustrating thing is I know we could compete at the top, but breaking into the top is hard, but once you are there recruitment becomes easier. This club could really flourish,we have done it before and it was great, but dropping down a league is not the answer.
Our gates, bearing in mind where we have finished recently have been good. Think what they might be with a few years of real success.
We just have to beat Catalan(no doubt most of their missing players will be back, not sure about ours)and must beat London.Think we will struggle at Salford and if not careful points diff could take a hit.
Don,t think one win will be enough now.Think London will win at least one and points diff could be crucial.
Bottom line... we must stay up.

I hope we stay up, obviously, but I do know where the OP is coming from

I don’t think relegation would be as painful as last time, when it was partly self-inflicted. And the gap between chasing 11th again in 2020 and whatever life in the Championship would bring (including potential catastrophic implosion) doesn’t feel quite as big as it should.

Maybe Tony Smith can instigate a cultural sea change or maybe we’ll make a big signing or two. The rumoured recruitment for 2020, good pros though i’m sure they are, doesn’t exactly whet the appetite or particularly inspire dreams of an 8th place finish.

When Rovers went down in 2016 the club still received central funding of £750k. Now the funding in the championship is far more evenly distributed Rovers would receive far less.

The supporters also rallied round to great effect it is doubtful if the response would be so good again.

So it would be difficult if not impossible for the club to remain full time and many of the clubs ambitious plans would not be affordable. Relegation would be a huge blow which could be hard to recover from.

Rovers are by no means down yet and we need to be supporting the club all we can in the remaining 3 games. The long term well being of the club may well rest on it.
