Seeing as he has commented in the Mail tonight regarding his contract situation, Is he living up to expectation? Do we want to keep him? Is there better out there?

Considering he is probably on a high wage, he needs to up his game before I'd be happy.

Lets see what he can do with Smith's guidance....

Agreed. He is the right size/build, age is fine, has proven the skill in the past but Im 50/50. As you say, lets see what Smith can bring out of him.

He never hit the ground running as he did when he joined Catalans. I thought he was pretty crap to start with but feel he began to improve...and has improved further over the last couple of weeks imo. Not sure if this is Smith's influence or the absence of McGuire...or probably both. Imo Drinkwater needed to direct things more...but he let McGuire take the lead cos of his experience and his own game has suffered for it. I'd give him another deal.

Drinkwater is never going to be a superstar, but he is a useful organiser with a good kicking game. The reason he worked so well for Catalans was that they were a team that was full of quality but lacking direction. He provided that direction. He didn't do anything earth shatteringly brilliant, he just gave them some organisation which allowed their stars to show what they could do.

To be blunt, he doesn't have the same quality around him now. If you can put together a more dominant pack and give him some proper strike out wide then I'm sure he can get a tune out of them, but he isn't the sort of player that will make things happen by himself.

I think having Quinlan back in the side will help him a lot.

That’s about right I reckon.

Think a lot of it had to do with the size & dominance of Catalans pack too. Put any half behind KR's pack & most would struggle.

Our pack is quite capable of holding their own when we’ve a full compliment on the pitch, our struggle this season has been ideas near the line and soft D the other way.
