Makes sense to me. We get 2 experienced outside backs. Dagger and Johnson get some game time. Walne in the shop window. Add in Carney feeling more confident about the Middle 8's. Could just do with the injuries clearing up and no more.

Not happy at all at Dagger being sent out on loan, the kid was brought into the club as a full time squad member, looked fantastic and a huge prospect when played and then we bin him off for Hall and Crooks.
I was a very big forgiver of Hall for his numerous awful defensive performances, but no one can tell me that he's improved in the last four years. Let's be honest, we only got him off Hull in the first place because they'd got sick of his defesive frailties and wanging it into row Z in attack.
If there is no struggle, there is no progress. Those who profess to favor freedom, and yet depreciate agitation, are men who want crops without plowing up the ground. They want rain without thunder and lightning. They want the ocean without the awful roar of its many waters. This struggle may be a moral one; or it may be a physical one; or it may be both moral and physical; but it must be a struggle.

There’ll probably be less need for Blair to cover the centres and we have backrowers who can play in the middle, as you say.
Scruton, Jewitt, Kavanagh, Masoe, Mulhern...
Then Tickle, Greenwood and Clarkson as utility options, with the option of putting somebody like Lee, Lawler (not far off fitness was the rumour I heard) or Donaldson at 13.
It could be a problem down the line, but the three-quarters needed some people in urgently and these things have to be balanced, I guess.
I’m still hoping that, just for once, Mario is right and we get Gubb. Don’t even know how feasible it’d be to sort a visa for him though, and the one link i’ve seen in the press was with Widnes.

If you're pinning your hopes on Mario...

Yeah, I get that, and this is where we're not doing enough as a club in development.
Dagger came to Rovers for that specific aim, to play games so we should be making our pathway deliver that.

Sheens thinks that Dagger does not have the physique to defend his line against big Super League players. Hence his disparaging description of him as the stick.
He does say Dagger is a real talent who he is expecting great things from in the next 2 years. He simply thinks he needs to bulk up first. Had we kept Dagger and left Hall at Leigh I don't think there would have been a mass protest but the coach thought differently and Hall is the more versatile & experienced.
Hall & Crooks are talented players who have shown flaws at Super league level in the past. Thing is we have Shaw, Minns & Heffernan gone for the season and Justin Carney in a recurring sequence of play one miss five.
Deadline day arrives and it's go with what we have or bring in Hall & Crooks. Even then we had to lose 3 players to stay under the cap. Both players are keen to earn contracts for next year so let's see what they can do.
I'd rather have Greg Inglis but with these two plus Todd Carney we have done about as well as we could have done with very little salary cap to play with.
