Just a quick one, After watching Hudd vs Wire, with one or two dubios decisions regarding forward passes, and also games previous i sometimes wonder what actually does the touch judge do? They never seem to assist the ref in making decisions especially on forward passes etc. Does anybody else think this? If they did help out a bit more then maybe the refs wouldnt be scrutinised so much! Also does anyone else think being placed on 'report' is a bit of a kop out for the ref, Tommy Lee should have been sent off for his high shot on Lee Briers, not placed on report. It didnt matter in this game but im sure there have been other games where if the player had of been yellow/red carded it would have made a difference to the outcome. Sorry it wasnt as quick as i thought. Wont be there tomorrow stuck in camp on duty, Radio Humberside for me!!

What you have to remember is that your view is from a camera angle that may distort the actual image and is why the video ref cannot comment on forward passes. Also what you may think is forward in an experts view it may not be. The ball doesn't actually have to travel forward only the hand(s) passing the ball facing backwards when the ball is released.
On the point about the high shot I can fully understand where Bentham was coming from placing the incident on report. Briers had dropped a couple of inches and had he stayed upright Lee may well have hit him square in the chest. Yes it is the defenders responsibility to not make contact on or above the neck so a penalty for sure and had a card followed I don't doubt anyone would have complained. What you have to look at though is was it accidental or malitious? In my opinion Lee knew instantly he'd made an error in judgment, wasn't trying to intentionally injure Briers so I think Bentham can look at that one and not have too many regrets.
Just remember the officials are all in constant communication with the overall decisions being made by the man in the middle. As we no longer see the "merry flag wavers" running on the pitch every five minutes it sometimes leads to these types of questions but I think they still have a vital role to play. Would be a good idea for the RFL to possibly inform the fans of the touch judges roles and that of the other officials in the ground during a match.

i think if a player is placed on report he should at least be sin binned. If a referee deems it a bad enough tackle (or whatever the incident may be) to put it on report he's basically saying 'have a look to see if the player warrants a ban or fine etc' if he thinks it may be that bad surely 10 mins isn't out of the question.especially if the player gets a 3 game ban, it hasn't assisted the side he commited the offence against at all.

it was lee briers so it was ok and also did you see briers punch from behind when the hudds player was held by 2 wire players but in answer to your question it is a massive kop out

I agree with that as what is the point of the player being able to carry on playing in that particular game.

On report should be completely scrapped, all matches are video reviewed and players can be charged following that.
All coaches review matches and have the right to cite players to the disciplinary panel.
On report merely gives weak lily livered referee's like Bentham the facility to opt out of their responsibilities.
