Dont wish to be pendantic,but in the picture the Union Jack is upside down. In that position it is recognised as a distress signal.

Not wishing to be pedantic Bart , the distress signals are contained in Annex IV of the 'Collision Regs' and the flying of a national flag upside down is not one of them.
