Hi folks,

Obviously new to the board, was wondering if any of you could help me at all. I've been asked to write 1000 words on Tony Banham. There is very little data available from what i can gather.

Do you have, or know where, any is available?

He seems like a cult hero, from some of the stories I have been told from Doncaster fans, from those old enough (and i've asked the Hull FC fans aswell) I'd love to know basically as much as possible about the guy.

Thanks.

Wasn't he one of the stars of that documentary of Doncaster RL? Another Bl**dy Sunday or something?

Didn't he break his leg at the Boulevard against Rovers in the late 70's?

He ended up playing for a Sunday league side ( Shire Horse ??), played against him three / four times.....fortunately i was faster than him :D
Seemed a decent enough guy off the field, always had good words to say about his amateur opponents TBF.

Played with and against Tony .....his only problem was his fitness to last a full 80 mins,,,,,,saying that he would probably be a Superstar in today's game as the guy was unstoppable from 15 to 20 mts out and with the use of "impact" players in the modern game Tony would have more then likely been the ultimate impact player

Tony went on to play american football at Ennerdale for Kingston Liberators , he was a big enough f'cker without all the padding.

Tony moved to the Leeds area as a licecsee. If I remeber correctly he unfortunatley passed away a few years ago. He once had the Gypsyville Tavern which was quite a rough place but Tony kept it all in order.
