Problem with the connectors is that they are soldered to the board, when they come loose it is usually down to a piece of the metal casing surrounding it fracturing. Soldering it back in is not a problem, the problem is getting the solder strong enough to hold it in place, it is surprising how much wear and tear those connections take.

Put your laptop model info up and check on the price of a replacement connection.

Whilst on this subject, anyone know a quick dial number to get through to Dell? My disk drive is just making a crunching noise and spitting the CDROM straight back out. Its under warranty but ive been trying to get through to Dell for about 2 weeks now with no joy. Either they dont recognise my customer number so dont put me through or they do put me through to a call centre abroad and i cant understand a word theyre saying. Any ideas?

You could try THESE, just type in dell in the search field. These look promising...Dell Support 0844 338 1033 or 01344 373727 , When asked to enter the express service code press and hold 0 twice and you will be transferred through to an operator.
