The second half of the best second row combination in Super League is opening talks with Rovers to extend his contract into next season and beyond.

Looks like another one off the HDM "list" who they reported wouldn't be staying

I think you are mistaken there. He is already under contract, therefore into next season implies into 2011, and beyond implies into 2012 when he turns 34. That is 2 years older than Fitzgibbon is now, yet he is only here for his pension.

I also take it you get this information from tomorrow's HDM, which you entirely discredit in the same post.

Wouldnt be too hasty. Good but ageing. Good money too. Need to prune a little next season. For mine could get 2 decent young hungery brits for the same money.

the problem hkr have got is other clubs will be sniffing about and so many older players he will probably want the 2 year deal. if you leave it to long you miss out.

and the 2 decnt brits wont have no where near the same quality your squad maybe bigger but your 17 will suffer.

Rovers have already held talks with Galea, Webster and Cooke with regards extensions into 2011. My guess is that they have been initial talks to see what the players demands will be and also to let all three know the kind of ball park that the club will be looking at.
I dont expect all 3 to stay, especially in view of the quota situation, but i dont think all 3 will be released at the end of their deals.

However you want to make the figures look Mrs B, you'll find Fitzgibon is nearly a year older than Galea and if Fitzy takes the option he'll be playing for Hull until the end of the 2011 season.

FWIW, i had the information before the HDM details were printed on their website, but it does seem at odds with the rumours ( all from Hull fans i might add) that Ben had (1) Signed a two year contract with Huddersfield or (2) Was talking to Hull fc about signing for them.

HTH.
