Is the Video Referee becoming stupidly overused??

I was at the KC Stadium yesterday and Mr Ganson referred virtually every decision to the screen, even when there appeared to be little reason to. Berrigan's try for example - why was that referred?

Once referred the Video Ref seems to delight in taking an age over the decision and replaying from every conceivable angle before finally reaching a decision which is usually evident on the first replay.

I'm all for referees ensuring the correct decision has been made, but I believe this system is going too far towards interrupting the flow of the game.

To be fair to Mr Ganson, he did try and let the game flow and didn't awared many penalties. Good job, or we would still have been there at teatime!

It was referred because it looked like Briscoe had stolen it and grounded it before Berrigan.

if you you watch that incident again, the views they show you says it was 50-50, but then as it was going off sky showed a view direct from behind the post, and had this been the first view i believe the try would not have been given as briscoe had more of the ball than berrigan

Also it would of been interesting to see the outcome if they went to the screen when Hall lost the ball over the line and dobson grounded it. im not sure if it was ripped out or if he lost control. but would of been interesting to see what decision he gave

I can't understand why he did not go to the VR for that one, it was either lost by the defender so a try to Rovers, or it was a ball steal so a penalty to Hull, it was not a drop out.

Yes i agree with that. After looking at it many times im still not sure what the decision would be to be honest. I think it is about 60% the ball had come loose so a try but not certain at all. Would be worth the vid reff looking

And if the ref had called held?

Agreed.

Would have been interesting to see what decision he would have made. Even the sky commentators were undecided.
