Don't understand this at all, he was awaiting this court appearance when they offered him his new deal, they cannot no act shocked.

They would not have seen the ctv evidence which I imagine is not a pretty sight, maybe this may have a bearing

What I can't understand is why the judge remanded him in custody...seems pointless if he's not going to sentence him to Prison.

As has been said, I hope he realises what a lucky escape he's had and moves on from it.
