The HDM wrote:NRL Grand Final winner Clint Newton has warned his new Hull KR team-mates he won't tolerate mediocrity.

Having played with some of the game's greats including Andrew Johns, Newton wants Rovers to be challenging at the top end of the Super League.

He arrived on a two-year deal yesterday, as revealed first on sporthull.co.uk, with Melbourne Storm team-mate Garett Crossman set to complete his move to Craven Park next week.

American-born second rower Newton became a victim of the salary cap at Melbourne when they were unable to offer him a good enough deal.

Storm coach Craig Bellamy was desperate to keep him having signed him when he walked out on Newcastle Knights after eight years, following a fall-out with coach Brian Smith.

Now he arrives in Hull and wants his winning mentality to rub off on his team-mates.

"I won't settle for mediocrity and hate being around people who do" the 26-year-old said.

"Having played alongside Andrew Johns and Danny Buderus, they have shown me that you can not afford to settle for mediocrity. Anybody who is happy to cut corners will be found wanting at some stage.

"I'm probably a bit of an optimist and furthering my career means that I want to win the title in Super League. There haven't been too many people who have won a Grand Final in the NRL and in Super League.

"That's the attitude I'm taking to Rovers. I want to win and I will be as professional as I can be in training and playing.

"Rovers are going to get what Newcastle and Melbourne have got over the last eight years.

Don't miss tomorrow's Mail, for Newton's verdicts on Rovers' signings, working with Justin Morgan and why he chose KR.

Sounds like there'll be plenty of gobs on the pitch for the dobbins next season. How's Justine gonna cope with all those egos????

I'll let you worry about that one.

Newton seems to have a similar sort of attitude to Mark O'Neill regards training ect, and all the players respected him.

Im hoping this kind of attitude does not start anything off between players. Could imagine a few personality clashes!

Does anyone else share this view?
