Save any comparisons for the end of 2010 when he has actually PLAYED the hooking role for a decent length of time.

Mr. Zucchini Head wrote:Not really, stats tell half the story, Danny Orr made more try assists than anyone last year, does that make him the best half back in superleague. We'll see this year who is the best, Long already has first blood after the derby and I know where my money would be going.

Oh and as for the stats, I thought super duper Newton was far and away the best second row in the comp?

you are correct, those stats don't prove Clint to be the best 2nd Rower in SL, but they do show him to be well ahead of Tickle in all the vital areas.

More metres, higher average per carry, more tries, twice as many clean breaks and a lot less missed tackles. The only significant stat that Tickle is ahead on is offloads. I suspect that is more down to Rovers gameplan than any slight on Newton.

That's a quality statement if I ever saw one. Pray tell, do you know how many games Scott played Hooker last season?

Thats exactly it, Morgan doesn't do the 'off-load at any opportunity game'.

An 'offload a bit more often game' might help us

Newton's a lot better than tickle, would have him at Hull given the chance. fox is the only other player who I think you would definitely say would improve Hull's side from rovers. Don't really think there is anyone else at rovers (until clinton arrives) who you could really say is definitely better than their counterpart at Hull. I'm sure there will be an argument over s briscoe and tansey but for me tansey is more imporatnt to HUll in what he offers in attack than briscoe would be. Likewise I don't think his style would suit the way rovers currently play as much as briscoe's does.

Much as these debates are fun, that is the point really. I wouldn't pretend that Colbon, for example, is a superstar, but Rovers gameplan plays to his strengths so he has been a good signing.

Both teams have a lot of players on a similar level of potential (only Berrigan, T. Briscoe and, for impact, Lauaki really jump out at me as players for which Rovers don't have similar equivalents). I could say the same for most other SL clubs. The battle for 2nd-10th places will be all about turning that potential into performance - plus luck with injuries.

IMO he should - it often works and at the very least is extremely entertaining. When you look back at classic games like Wire CC in 2006, a lot of our tries came from great offloads. 8) :)

and Fitzy trying a not so good one was the turning point for our going out in the QF last year.
Offloading is great if it comes off, when it doesn't it tends to lose you games.

I do agree with you here, although I do like to see off loads now and again just in the right areas. Theres nothing worse then seeing a stupid offlaod that goes wrong and costs you a try.
