Think you will find the costs of publishing a book have dropped - much is done online now and many first-up authors use a print on demand process!

That said I think the book would only become reality when the impending court action by FC ruins out of time! 8)

Although many will say he has damaged RL in Hull he has also done a fair bit of good for the sport in the city. Pre Sean Long he was the only player worthy of getting our teams any more than three lines in a national tabloid, the derby always had more press due to the 'return of Paul Cooke', and the nemesis type stories.

No doubt he'll come back and haunt us in a similar way to which he has Hull and there is still a few stories left in him yet. (I still don't think he's necessarily played his last game for a Hull club).

As the saying goes all press is good press.

If there is, wonder how many FC fans will buy it, even out of curiosity.

It won't be on the scale of Sean Long's (who is famous enough to be on Question of sport!), with serializations in national papers. Or Barry McDermott's or Jamie Peacock's for that matter. But the target audience you describe isn't too different from Stanley Gene's. There is a lot of goodwill towards Gene, and he did have a remarkable story to tell spanning two cultures. On the other hand, I reckon morbid curiosity sells pretty well and there is definately a story to tell.

He should do it soon, probably when the statute of limitations on his Hull to Rovers legal stuff passes. Lee Jackson, for example, had probably been off the RL stage a bit too long when he published. Cooke's could actually be a decent book if they get a good writer and do it warts and all.

I'd certainly buy the book - then the gratitude I reluctantly owe for the 2005 CC try will be repaid. He should do it soon, though. Out of city, out of mind, and all that. Would the legal challenge Hull could drop on him prevent this, though, until that deadline has passed?

Yeah I'd have thought so really, remember him saying before that he really couldn't tell the full and/or real story until everything was sorted out. Until the case is declared 100% closed you'd therefore think he still can't. :?

Hence the "vanity publishing" bit
