e.g. when a team plays in west yorkshire we would have bbc leeds comms.

Dont be to sure! the BBC local stations were talking about having to drop live sport as they dont see it as thier job to promote professional sides, That was disscussed as part of the cost cutting anounced when the licence fee was fixed they are contemplating having 5 live as the only live sports channel. That means only local round up's & the odd report we might get the odd full game outside the soccer season (incidently there will also be little live local soccer as well).

Then they should look at viewing figures of the Sunday rugby as opposed to eastenders that follows the rugby. And how can it not be their job to promote sport because alot of their licence payers are sports fans.

The end of Sportstalk is Edit-ASin' brilliant.
The end of RL coverage on Humberside will not happen.

So you'd rather have no sorts related programming mid week? Although RH is not the best in terms of content it is still one of the few outlets that covers RL to any extent. What impact will this have on sponsors if they see less and less coverage of RL in the media.
RH has its faults but its still far better than nothing at all.

Sports Talk does more damage than anything I can ever imagine for the reputation of rugby supporters in this City. It's embarrassing to be associated to some of the callers I've heard.
It's the same old stale programme it always has been, where someone like G will play the anti christ to simply encourage more callers. Sadly this only leads to more and more stupid callers from FC and KR fans.

The football forum and the oval ball are just the same. Read stupid comments out on the txt to get the phone lines busy. The format is rubbish, and would hardly entice a new sponsor to the game, if that's what they hear everyday.

Hey, maybe I'm being harsh on Sports Talk, cos' I have only had it on when I've been commuting back, so maybe on other occasions it's ace.
My comments have no bearing on their live sports coverage, that's first class. It's their format away from this that I find rubbish.

Viewing figures are irrelevent its radio that is being cut! (although TV will also have less cash to spend). It is not the BBC but the independant commission that has directed them to make substantial savings in return for the continued licence fee, I think we have had good coverage from the local station, we will not get that from any comercial station as it is very expensive to cover live sport. Most comercial stations run on a very small number of staff vith very little or no outside broadcast. & no it is not the BBC's job to promote any buisiness. Their charter is to educate, inform,& entertain (in that order) sport is just a small part of the entertainment. We will have to see how the cuts & changes pan out but I think we will all see a substansial differance in the BBC out put in the next few years as they adjust to the new funding.

The idea that 5 live would be their only output has been dismissed

the bbc want to protect local sports output details here

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-16716291

obviously things will change due to cuts but i still fully expect both teams to have coverage on humberside in the future

Thanks for the links, it seems a bit better than the doomsday scenario of last years reports. I think we would all miss the BBC coverage (it don't mean it can't improve though).

Think they under estimated the popularity of local radio when they 1st announced the consultation.

Totally agree about missing coverage. great that some clubs offer altenatives online but it should only be an alternative.

For lots of older fans the radio is their only source of upto date info on their club.

things can always be improved and i personally would like to see sports talk replaced by an 1 hours discussion/magazine programme on each of the 5 clubs each week instead of a free for all like they have now
