The Rugby Football League are in the process of reviewing the video that you are referring to. We do not condone behaviour of this nature and have contacted the player’s employer, Hull F.C., who have confirmed that they are dealing with the incident under their club rules.

Big isn't the same as important, though. Tbf, if it was me I'd dead bat and say 'we want to finish as high as possible'. Young men, no doubt responding to leading questions - I can forgive them easily. I'd put up with a much worse media strategy in return for a single extra 40/20 during the course of the season.
Even JM's entirely uncontroversial statement that he wants to win the league is deliberately misconstrued, and represented as hubris, when it clearly sits somewhere between hope and ambition. Downplaying expectations constantly might be wise, but it'd also be cowardly and possibly self-fulfilling. I don't want a diffident coach.

Charlie Mullen has wrote similar stuff regarding signings etc and ended up looking an even bigger bell end when it turned out he was wrong.
I would be amazed if the Hull dressing room was not buzzing at them minute and every single team in the World have goals, many of which will be set as the season progresses. Surely the Hull boys are now thinking 2nd is possible?

By "plastering it all over the local media" I assume you mean the bulls**t articles by Mullen? He has a style of asking a question along the lines of "do you think that 4th place is still achieveable?" What player is going to publicly say "no way, we have no chance, have you seen the table you Irish Muppet?"
I have no problem with either teams players setting stretch objectives. It only becomes an issue when 1 particular poster on here seems to think that just Rovers players have lofty ambitions or ideas above their station.

That is how the media works. My wife's friend won a makeover from a woman's magazine and was interviewed by them. The questions were like 'do you like the vibrant colours of this dress and feel that the cut suits you?', 'Yes, I guess' she'd reply. Then the article would read 'Sarah liked the vibrant colours of this dress and felt the cut really flattered her'. Any additional opinions she expressed were 'editted out' of an piece that had clearly been pre-written. More extreme (and not suggesting the HDM do this, but it was the local paper of another provincial city), a colleague of mine was interviewed on a subject on which he is an expert. The journalist clearly wanted him to say something that goes beyond current scientific knowledge. Knowing how these things work, he refused to even speculate - so they just made up a quote!

Im all for the Players/coaches and whoever else; coming out and saying they want to win the league/playoffs/cup - yes its asking alot, but it shows confidence in your team and what you think of them.
Take Rafa at liverpool for instance; saying something like our players are is 1 thing - turning around and guaranteing (spelling?) they will finish in a certain position is something totally different..... HKR are not doing this - they are hoping!

2nd place?! These guys are loons. We've been taken to the cleaners twice by the team in 5th. Bless them.
Seriously, though, you must be pretty pleased with the possibility of being level with Huddersfield at the weekend, having not really hit much form?

We wont be level on Point Diff though!
Lets be honest about this though - Weve been shocking in a fair few games this season and are still very much in the hunt for a decent finish (4th/8th) imo. So if we hit abit of form just before going into the playoffs (unlike before) then id be confident of upsetting the odds in 1 or 2 games.
