Mrs Barista wrote:Dobson's agent clearly played a good hand here. Wigan and Hull were both interested, but as Noble said at the time, "We offered a chocolate bar, they (Rovers) offered the whole factory". The article says "raises the possibility" of the loan option though, not that it had been validated as viable. Since Hull and Wigan apparently tabled similar deals, it may have been an option before Rovers came in with a better offer.
I don't see this "proof" that Hull could accomodate what Rovers paid Dobson under the cap. Rovers paid Dobson his "whole factory" salary from round 14 in May. FC didn't sign Webster until July when he hoped to debut in the July derby, so at best would have played 7 games, and then clearly not on the same rate Dobson was on. As for the point about the overseas place, surely you can't have forgotten the passport saga and the fact the deal was contingent on the British passport which arrived with one game left?

"(Hull's) Kath Hetherington came to our game on Saturday night.
"I don't know if she was looking at him or looking at someone else."
Kimmorley's agent, George Mimis, said it was his understanding Hull wanted Canberra's Michael Dobson and not the former Sharks captain.
Hull part-owner Hetherington said last night: "We are after a halfback. We're looking for good players.
"I'm hoping we're in a position to announce something within the next month or so." Dobson, meanwhile, revealed he would ask new Raiders coach David Furner about his plans before deciding whether to join Hull, Wigan, Harlequins or Catalans.

Unsure on the quota situation but 1 game of webster doesn't equate to the same cost as 3/4 a season of dobson. The wigan situation was unrealistic. They needed to get him signed and in the country before the end of 2008 season. they had no cap space or quota space available so came up with some scheme whereby they rolled his 2008 money into a contract from 2009 on and loaned him to Hull at no cost as Hull couldn't afford him within their cap..
Ignore the facts if you want but there's only one of us burying our heads in the sand and it isn't me.
3 clubs were interested, only 1 was in a position to sign him when he needed to come over, but you convince yourself players would choose rovers over Hull and wigan if it makes you feel better
not agree with anyone here but the fact is ,and i quote Brian Noble "we offered michael a choclate bar rovers offered him the whole choclate factory" suggests HKR offered him a lot more money than hull or wigan where prepared to offer or could under the salary cap ,if all clubs had offered the same terms i would have thought he would have gone back to wigan with him knowing the place and the players ,if we lost out due to been greedy then we and wigan lost a great signing ,but i would have thought it was more to do with cap restrictions ,thats why they introduced it tbf
