And whereas Mike Smith, perhaps worried about revealing something sensitive, tends to go with 'it's not really as simple as that...' or 'What fans sometimes don't understand is...' and then chuck out a word salad that leaves you not much wiser, Sheen gives us information which can be understood - even if it isn't want you'd want to be true. I think this approach should prevent some of the wilder theorising and the negativity that can result from it.

He explains the cap and non-fed situation. Although some way off the cap for much of 2017, we spent relatively big to get promotion. The arrivals of Carney, Masoe and McGuire, plus the promotion upgrades to contracts for players who took a cut for 2017, means we don't have 'half a million' burning a hole in our pockets. He notes that our situation is similar to Leigh's last year - not shying away from the implication of that. We've a couple of non-fed spots, but top end NRL players are no longer obtainable owing to the wages available over there.
There's some positive stuff on upgrades to facilities and linking up with York as sister clubs. Some senior players are not yet back in training following ops, but hopefully everybody will be ready for round 1.
