Sure, it may develop Atkin as a player long term as is the justification used by sheens but surely what the move actually suggests is that 1 or both of the players are not good enough in the role they were signed up to play. Now, seeing as Atkin got called up for the knights on the back of his performances at 7 I think it’s logical to assume that Lee isn’t offering what sheens wants from a hooker. But then if that’s the case why start him there and Atkin in the bench vs the pies? As the thread title states ....... baffling
In his post match interview last time Tim Sheens said he saw Atkin,s long term position as a hooker as he gives much needed pace especially with Lunt out. lee gives experience & organisation but lacks the quick blast of speed. As for Wallace he is only 18(I think) as such I assume he requires handling carefully & not overplayed & burnt out, that call is best left to the most experienced coach in super league.

One theory (don’t know how much truth there is in it) is that Atkin plays a bit too much off the cuff at half back, with Sheens feeling the returns on his decisions don’t compensate for the loss of structure. He was maybe given a freer hand at Swinton as their stand-out player and with less time to prep. But I think/guess Sheens feels we need to be a more cohesive team and not ‘try to solve problems individually’ as he’s said a few times.

Whoever plays we must match their PTB speed.Still a good side if let get on a roll. Would be nice to see back to back wins and a repeat of atmosphere from last week. Can't call this one

Has the atkin/lee swap been that much of a failure?
Atkin looks really good from dummy half I think, quick/nippy and is very direct with decent enough distribution.
As a first receiver I think Lee has done ok. His assists are pretty high and generally his kicking game is decent, especially long kicking game. He has kicked 3/4 40/20's this year hasn't he. His assist for Vaivai last week was pretty good as well.
With how we play with quinlan as a 3rd pivot it's not necessarily a bad thing having Lee at half back and some more speed around the ruck. IMO we are only gaining attributes here and not losing much.

Well that was an awful performance if anything has come out of tonight I'd say Atkin has to play a full game preferably in the halves with Blair at the moment but we just didn't have a clue tonight

you cannot afford to have blair and the invisible man at half back recruitment over the past few years has been shocking and it needs to change, trying to polish turds gets boring for the fans, surely there are players in the championship better than half a dozen of ours ,how can you hope to win a super league game with lee and blair at halfback, salter and 2 lightweight wingers.and that's just the start.

Blair has been good this season and while Maguire is injured I'd keep him there as he's steady and Atkin plays more off the cuff we just didn't have any go forward at all tonight
