The Android 2.3 gingerbread update for the HD is now available, i've just done mine (well, mrs graftons) so we'll see how it goes.

Nokia 6300 (I think), had it 6 years, been dropped off scaffold, dropped in muddy puddles and is still working fine, rings out, allows ringing in but will not guide you around London or order a pizza without speaking to someone.

If you want a phone that is over hyped and over priced its got to be i-phone.

But world wide Android phones now outsell i-phone even though the media don't seem to want to tell us.

HTC Desire is the best smartphone available according to Smartphone magazine and though it is not cheap it is cheaper than the i-phone.

But the beauty of Android it that it gives choice and caters for all tastes and budgets. If the HTC Desire is too costly you could get a HTC Wildfire which is still a brilliant phone and very affordable. Or if you prefer a different manufacturer like Samsung that is your choice too. With Apple you don't get any options and you pay top price, end of story.

The app store (apple) has more apps than Android market place and that's really the only advantage of i-phone. But Android now has 250,000 apps compared to Apple 350,000 and the gap is narrowing all the time.

Firstly, you cannot compare 'Android' to 'iPhone' as you are comparing two different things (an operating system vs a device). A very unfair comparison. For example: Compare the sales of Microsoft Windows against Dell computers.

The iPhone is THE biggest selling single handset in the world.
iOS operating system almost doubles the sales of Android.

The issue, and the thing everyone seems to get wrong when making these decisions, is the difference between the real target market of the two systems.
For a business product, software developer or programmer for example; Apple products (Mac, iPad, iPhone and the iOS operating system in general) are far more stable and more advanced than ANY Android product or other operating system. Android is effectively the 'Chav' system of the phone/tablet world as it is a fully trimmed down system with no real advances in technology, just made cheaper to be able to attract the younger (and cheaper) end of the market.
iPhone is generally aimed at the 'more serious' user. Someone who wants genuine functionality. For example: In my line of work and at manufacturing of technology products the iPhone/iPad is the ONLY device used. Even Samsung (Galaxy and Galaxy Tab, both Android) fully use iPads/iOS to communicate and programme their products.
Home Automation systems and Home lighting are all systems designed and programmed around iOS.

But if you want something that works 'like' an iPhone but isn't future proofed and ultimately cheaper, then the HTC is for you...

Apple are still way behind Nokia, Samsung, Sony Ericsson, LG. For global sales.
You show me one useful thing an iPhone can do that my HTC Desire HD can't do. When you finally admit you can't, then We'll compare prices and price plans.
People buy an iPhone because its an iPhone, that to me is chavness. FFS, even Apple realise it and use it in their latest advert.

Ive just binned the iphone for the s2, took it to graft and the lads with iphone 4 preffered mine too, absolutly cracking phone and brilliant camcorder too

Went into phones4u the other day and looked a salesman in the eye and said "I want a something that makes phonecalls". He was dumbstruck.

Due for an upgrade in a few weeks, weighing up the HTC Desire.
