While acknowledging Leeds and Saints have been the best teams this season (and last and the one before that), Wigan and Catalans pushed them hard in the semis, despite having slightly the worse of the ref, IMO. Catalans were penalised (
sometimesjustifiably) nearly every set in the first half at Headingly it seemed and Fa'asavalu's offload to no-one that was called as a strip was a real turning point at Knowsley Road.
People say the standard of SL has slipped, and if you judge it by its best teams it probably has. The mid-ranking teams have moved on though, so there are more decent teams, just fewer really good ones. In football, the quality of the top flight has never been higher, but it is so distorted by the big 4 that the level of competition is abyssmal.
