It's a shame the club are letting go of a good young prop forward and I hope he isn't being made to go so they can sign Mason. If I had a choice between the two I would definitely take Wheeldon who has his best days ahead of him. Mason on the other hand is nearing the end of his career and although a great player in his day, is just looking for a final big pay packet. He comes with a load of baggage and seems to have a poor attitude which makes him difficult to coach similar to Paul Cooke. I know some people would say that he was average and won't be missed but when called upon he would roll his sleeves up and give 100% whereas players like Clint Newton can go missing at times but people don't get on his back because he is supposedly superman. Don't get me wrong I think Clint is a great player but not the superstar some fans make him out to be and has bad games and makes poor decisions at times and not forgetting that awful final pass at the KC. All teams need players like Scott Wheeldon who will turn up and do the graft. He is a similar sort of player to Jason Netherton although Nev maybe edges him in defence, so if the club can keep a player such as Jason why can't they keep Scotty.
If he was on the same sort of wages as nev is on then great, but I'm lead to believe we paid over the odds for scott wheeldon when we signed him to attract him, now the kid has become a very good squad player but he was never going to get the same terms offered 2 years down the line as a rotation prop who doesn't make the squad every week. It would be unfair to ask him to take a pay cut when he has offers on the table from elsewhere also, sorry to see him go (if he has) but good luck to him
