So maybe its not his defence that is a weakness but the tactics used that have been exploited?
That is probably why he such a JM favourite...but if he was not so robotic he could perhaps have a word with JM and say "its not working boss" (or perhaps JM knows Welham struggles with the finer points of reading the attack at centre and feels he has no choice to use this way if he is going to play him)..and do you summise Jake Webster refuses to employ the same style or just reads the game a little better...??
I would suggest that the fact he was in the top 3 missed tackles in the entire league in 09, the top 10 last year and is already in the top 6 this year would infer there is a weakness.....and the lack of improvement over this time is a massive concern whichever way it is....
