My Dad was there, somewhere near where the try was scored.

He said that the ball was kicked dead & ricocheted off the stand back into Murphys hands. He claimed the try & the referee, presumably unsighted, gave it.

Didn’t Murph own up to this a few years later?

Yes he did and will be remembered by us older generation as a cheat because of it. Don't forget the Sid Hynes incident at Wembley when he was caught winking after getting Hynes sent off.

The ball was kicked by Alex it hit the back wall bounced back and He claimed the try. The referee was Eric Clay he was that far behind the play because he was too fat and slow he went to the linesman to ask if he saw what happenned, the linesman who had been demoted from being a referee due to bad eyesight that season,said it was ok as far as he was concerned,he didnt see it, Clay then awarded a try.

Wasn't it referred to teh video ref?
