Fev have a new 12'000 seater stadium planned, permission in place and finance ready as well as a shopping development whose annual rent will bring in a tidy sum. The club is finacially sound, things are going well enough on the pitch and have a good chance of making a final in the next three years as well as an award winning Community development set up, as well as some great plans for the future in this field.
Why would they need Wakey?
I dont think Fev or any other Championship side will get a look in at the next SL franchise bids because the RFL change the rules too much but there certainly is nobody at Fev who would consider doing that with Wakey. It would end in disaster, although I can see why people at Wakey would be hoping to get in on the new stadium act
I think he was alluding to the Hull FC and Gateshead model. ie: Fev in their new stadium to SL and a watered down Wakey in NL1

Success consists of getting up just one more time than you've fallen down.

Why?, because Wakey are already in SL, e.g. Hull and Gateshead, the Gateshead part of the merger soon disappeared the same with the Sheffield part of Huddersfield and Sheffield Giants!! I'm sure once they are an established SL side the Wakefield part could 'fall off' the teams name!!! Oh how I'd laugh if that was to happen

I see what you mean but I dont see why the RFL would need to sanction that now, there are several decent teams waiting to step in and I am sure the Wakey players worth their bacon will end up at other clubs therefore giving a pool of unwanted players for the new SL side to pick from.
Halifax, Barrow, Toulouse, Featherstone, Widnes and Leigh could all put strong cases forward now.
Sod Wakey, let them go bust and start in Championship 1 if things are that bad.

But none of them are 10 miles down the road!!

But it still does not mean Fev would have to accept such a deal?
There is no benefit from merging, none I can think of at all.
The owner of Fev hates Wakey with a passion, he is not going to sell out to them, even if they had money and the fans from both clubs would be disgusted.
I cant ever see a merger in Rugby League again.
Wakey dont need to merge to get a new stadium, there is nothing to stop them renting the Keepmoat Stadium, Cas's new ground or Fev's.
