Think it was 1996 when local government reorganisation took place. Previoulsy the ground was owned by Ryedale council then became property of City of York Council.
Ryedale was a nonsense name which had NO meaning at all to people who live in York it was a typical stupid local council decision to inflict such a meaninless name on the people of York. Ryedale is in the Pickering area. Good riddence to a silly name!

Maybe as much to do with the fact that at the time the stadium was actually in the Ryedale council area and that council paid for it I believe...he who pays the piper calls the tune etc!
