Doncaster RLFC's community department recently ran a touch rugby league competition for students at Balby Carr Community Sports College.
Students from various academies at the college took part in the competition which was linked to their BTEC assignment. As part of the curriculum, they have to participate in another practical team sport that has different rules and regulations to the sport which they are studying.
An impressive 94 students in total took part, of which 20 were girls, and for many students this was their first experience of playing rugby league.
Balby Carr's director of rugby Martin Dye said: "This was a great incentive to bring the students together to compete in a team environment.
"It has hopefully raised the profile of rugby league in Doncaster, and it subsequently gave the students an opportunity to try out a different sport.
"We would like to thank the Dons for their continued hard work and support with the college, and we can now look forward to this competition being played each year."
Dons community coach Martin Rowlands said: "The club has a great working relationship with Balby Carr, and this was an idea which was discussed earlier in the year.
"We are really happy on how the day went, the students improved as the day went on, and there were some very good skills on show.
"More importantly everyone enjoyed the experience, and we look forward to next year's competition."
