The Marauders players, Coaching staff and Committee have all been buzzing over the last ten weeks during the clubs build up to the start of the winter Pennine season.

Planning for the new season the club introduced its first pre-season training since 2003 with the committee assembling an experienced coaching team that included two ex-first team coaches with professional playing experience; Steve Parkes (ex-Sheffield Eagles), Chris Allen (ex-Castleford Tigers) and new kid on the block Martin Rowlands who after playing his junior rugby with the Marauders arrived at his home town club via Doncaster Toll Bar & Doncaster RLC.

With the buzz at the club spreading around the village it didn’t take long for it to reach other areas of the district and the numbers soon started to grow and at times reached well into the forties.

For the first Pennine League game against Newsome Panthers the selection of the side became a bit of a headache, “But it is a nice headache” as one of the coaching staff said.

The clubs Coaches are aware that some players will be disappointed at being left out for the opening game, but this problem should be made a lot easier next week when we have our first RLC fixture at home alongside an away fixture for the Pennine side.

“It’s a shame that you can’t pick them all and there are obviously going to be a few disappointed” Said the coaching staff,” There’s not much you can do but decisions have to be made and we aim to be in the running at the business end of the season ”.
