Post subject: | O/T - Help Needed |
Hi Everyone, I'm after a bit of help. We currently live in East Yorkshire and my wife commutes to work in Doncaster. She's getting fed up of the journey and we're considering moving to the Doncaster area. Trouble is, neither of us know the area and don't really know where to start. I'd be grateful if anyone could advise which are the nicest residential areas in and around Doncaster, and which should be avoided at all costs. We have a young son who will start school in September 2011, so it would be nice if there were good schools nearby too. Thanks in advance. |

Hi, I live in Sprotbrough and the village end is a lovely plkace to live. You've got the Boat Inn on the canal and Sprotbrough Falls beauty spot. It's only 3 miles from the centre of Doncaster too. What's not to like? |

Thanks to everyone who replied. Managed to find somewhere in Tickhill. The house isn't up to much (yet), but the village more than makes up for it. Spent a very pleasant couple of hours with my son this afternoon feeding the ducks at the big pond thingy. Looking forward to being able to do it on a regular basis and perhaps even putting in an appearance at one or two Doncaster RLFC games! |

It's got decent pubs and a garden centre. I don't care about schools....just pubs. |

Not been in the pubs yet, but I had a beer outside the Italian restaurant the other day. One of the schools is a couple of minutes walk from the house, but it's a CofE one and I don't know if I want him surrounded by God-botherers all day. |

I'd send him if it has a decent record....he can always be 'straightened out' later. ![]() Mind you...will they have you jumping through hoops in the application process, 'proving your religion'? Anyway.....what's a few fibs? ![]() |

Anyway.....what's few fibs? ![]() Its record is quite good, without being particularly outstanding. It's two minutes from my front door though, whereas the alternative is in Wadworth. They do say that they 'welcome all children from the local area, regardless of their parents' beliefs', but then bang on about how they like to 'promote Christian values' at every opportunity. They even light a candle in their daily 'collective worship' to show that God is with them. FFS. |

Tickhill is nice and as S-O says, it has a two or three decent enough pubs. Good luck with the school thing. |
