I didn't go to the meeting at the drum but was told that there was probably going to be some news this week regarding a possible take over, does anyone know whats going on with this?

The suggestion (un-confirmed) is that a Martin Winter-led consortium was expected to take over sometime after the Halifax game. No formal / official announcement as yet though.

DONCASTER Rugby League Club's chief executive Dave Marshall confirmed yesterday that he will step down from the post at the earliest opportunity.
But before he does he says that he wants to make every effort to secure the club's future.

"Talks are still ongoing to try and find a solution to our financial problems so I can't really say a lot," Marshall told The Star.

He said that he was aware that supporters were anxious to hear news of future developments.

"What I can say is that no more players have left since last week and I wouldn't expect anyone to leave this week," he said.

Despite having had to introduce unpopular cost-cuttting measures in a bid to keep the Championship club afloat, Marshall has retained the backing of most fans.

"The reaction of the majority of the fans to the news that I am stepping down has meant a lot to me and I really appreciated the things that they said about the job that I have done," he said.

"But it has been at a cost. The pressures of doing the job for the last eight months or so, with all the financial problems, has taken its toll on my health and family life."

The cash-strapped club, whose major creditor is the Inland Revenue, have held talks with the Rugby Football League.

Wish Dave all the very best in whatever the future brings him.

Yes, me too.

He was prepared to give it a go when there was no-one else and for that we supporters owe him our thanks and best wishes.

All the best to Dave in the future .Sorry that the turmoil at the club has had an effect on a true gentleman.
Why do clubs always have the I.R. as the major creditors surely you should pay them off as you go along

I think it's mainly because money owed to other people/companies are people that you have done business with, and are likely to want to do business with in the future, as opposed to HMRC, who you don't really have an option to deal with, no matter how much you hate them
