On behalf of Sheffield Eagles the following announcement has been made:

Sheffield Eagles in consultation with Doncaster RLFC have agreed that the following offer will be made to season ticket holders of other clubs:

Come and watch Sheffield Eagles v Toulouse on Saturday 23rd May 2009 (kick off 6.00pm) and/or Sheffield Eagles v Whitehaven 13th June 2009 and 50% of the entrance fee will be given to Doncaster RLFC. Spectators should simply take their season ticket to the white portacabin outside the main turnstiles on Worksop Road and they will be recorded and issued with a ticket.

This offer is similar to one run successfully by Featherstone Rovers and it is hoped that it will generate much needed funds for Doncaster. Everyone involved at Sheffield Eagles hopes that Doncaster RLFC can find a way through their current financial problems and that South Yorkshire derby games continue.

I don't know what anyone else thinks but I find all this slightly embarrassing (even slightly condescending in the case of Sheffield). We're fast becoming the basket case of rugby league. They'll happily take our players and give a token gesture in return.

Alternatively - 'What a lovely gesture from Sheffield ... ' - Yeah, I get all that but can't bring myself to think it.

And although these are great gestures.....they amount to coppers...because our travelling support is down to tens rather than hundreds.
A few hundred quid.
Still never look a gift horse in the mouth eh?
