Gateshead Thunder have pulled off a coup with the signing of former Melbourne Storm half-back or hooker Russell Aitken.

Aitken, 23, who was in the Melbourne team that lost to Manly in last October's Grand Final, will join the Championship club on an 18-month contract from French Cup winners Carcassonne at the end of their season on June 1.
