"Doncaster’s sporting heroes are to be honoured at a special awards ceremony in May.

The inaugural Keepmoat Stadium Doncaster Sports Awards will be held on May 22 at the stadium, with celebrity guests(inc Ellery Hanley), entertainment and a two-course dinner.

The awards will highlight the achievements of the unsung community heroes to professional superstars of all ages, from the groundsman of a local junior soccer squad to the town’s biggest names in sport.

Those nominated for an award must have been born, live or operate in Doncaster.

Doncaster Free Press readers will decide the award of Unsung Hero – with the chance to vote via the newspaper, later in proceedings, from a shortlist of finalists.

Other categories include the Lifetime Achievement award, Sporting Personality of the Year, Sporting Business of the Year, Coach/Manager of the Year, Amateur Sports Club of the Year.

Shane Chalmers, General Manager of the Keepmoat Stadium said: “As a community stadium we felt that it was important for us to give something back to the community we serve and what better than a celebration of sporting achievement from across the borough.

“This will be a wonderful, celebratory event recognising the spectacular achievements of sports people from Doncaster from local amateur activities to our professional clubs. We want to hear from everyone from golfers to fishing champions and darts teams to ice dancers.”

“Doncaster has a great sporting past but more importantly, it has a brilliant sporting present. We want to celebrate not only our champions but our champions-in-waiting.

“The Sports Awards celebrate and applaud the sporting endeavours and achievements of our local heroes, and the event will be a memorable night of recognition for excellence and success.”

Ive nominated Parky for a posthumous award.
