Me and Rich were talking about it on Sunday and we had both heard this rumour.

It had shut but it was open again on Friday night. However the beer was crap and warm. There's Fara's pub which is directly opposite which might be a better bet. No real ales but at least your lager will be cold and fizzy!

Yes, The Carlton is in the Good Beer Guide. Last time I visited, there was a very good choice of Real Ales.

The Carlton is on Attercliffe Road (A6178) at the junction with Staniforth Road (B6200).
