It was paid for by sale of council assets on the whole, so indirectly yes.

However their argument would be that therefore it is in the best interest for the Stadium to get as many companies putting money into the Stadium as possible to give a better return on the public investment.

Surely the best use of our council tax is the promotion and success of any Doncaster based sporting club, and we should not be concerned with any one from any other town. I wish Wakey well, but their stadium requirements are not the problem of the Borough of Doncaster.

If that bunch of scallywags (the SMC) could rent the stadium out to capacity to ANYBODY, they would. that's their remit.
However as far as the pitch is concerned, there is a limit, and as far as logistics of fitting games into a workable schedule there is a limit. So pop concerts and events is a more practical alternative rather than more regular pitch-based sport.
So we can chill....
Personally ... I don't care what they do, as long as we have a half-decent stretch of grass to play on.

I can't believe this
Who would pay £50M for a small bog???
Unless of course this is accountants talk whereby the selling money and reclocation/buying a new stadium money are all grouped together.
You know, I sell my old place for £20M and buy a new place for £30M and that's a £50M deal.
The mind boggles.
