Sadly i cant see any of this turning around, next season we might see something different but this year is already gone.

Piss poor recruitment and absolutely no team spirit has made it a devastating season. The home support will now drop by the hundreds and i expect next to noboby to attend any away games.

A defeat at Leigh will send me into depression by Next Thursday evening.

Love a brew.

You never know! Next season a Widnes supporter might become Chairman (for a change) and things might get better. Chin up mate!

Poor recruitment? Thought you said at the begining of the season you had recruited well? Some good players, 2 bad coaches, same result.
Watching the game tonight i think its painfully obvious in what areas Widnes are lacking and unfotunatley for the Vikings good halfs, hookers and Loose Forwrds are hard to come by at this point in the season. At times it was like watching slow motion.

With all of the changes that are supposed to be happening over the next few weeks, it could make or break us - we don't want to get any worse do we?

I think the only thing we can cling to now is that the play-off system, despite it being heavily weighted in the top 2's favour, its not impossible to win it outside the top 2. If it was a straight league competiton, we'd be well and truely screwed by now, but if we can bring players in and we can turn it around, the play-off's could work for us. Remember Bradford in 2005? They were the best team by the end but probably weren't the best team until the last 7 or 8 games or so.

If we just trundle through the season picking up a few wins here and there and just scrape into the play-off's in 5th or 6th and in no sort of form then its obvious we'd just go out in the 1st round. If we do get a run together at some point though then we'll at least give ourselves the opportunity to still do something this season - doesn't look like we'll do anything at the moment, but its not over yet is it?

Chin up VM...

It's time to reset our expectations certainly but I wouldn't say that the season is over. We are still in the NR and I would expect to get past York. A good cup run could be just what the good doctor ordered.

James Webster looked like the kind of player we expected him to be at times last night and that has to give you some heart. If they can now just get some of the other players to start performing around him we should get better.

It also seems like the club have realised the size of the task at hand.. several new recruits in the fire, players on the way out and a re-think of the current training system indicate that a big shake up is in the offing.

Will any of it help? Who knows but it ain't over till Hobson sings!!

Can't believe that "the seasons over" is already happening. We are still up there with the rest of them with half of the season remaining. We are still in the NRC.

How is it over?

Oddly enough V4E I think the comp that we as fans have consistently bad mouthed in the NR cup offers us the best chance to potentially rescue this season. Although were a bit crap at the moment you would expect us to get a semi-final place and then who knows :D

As you say with the playoff format and our form particularly away from home make it hard to see how we would progress in the playoffs from a low finishing position.

Im strangely quite excited though to see where the squad goes from here under Cullen. It has been clear and well discussed by the fans that the squad was skewed from the start and had no balance to it. If Cullen as he is making noises to the effect, can implement some changes mid-season then id be confident that we could improve and start putting pressure on those above us.

I suppose it all depends on the above though and if things cant be juggled ala Peachey-Gate then the rest of the season will fall down as damage limitation and everyone can cast there eyes onto next year and getting some balance in the squad, positionally and with playing status.
