Last night I watched the entire match of the 1980 all Hull cup final.

This Era was a time I was alive but before my time as knowing anything.

Sammy Lloyd had a mare, not only his missed kicks, but he cost us an almost certain try for Graham Bray, when he needlesly obstructed a player off the ball. We should have won that game. We didn't start well, but I thought we looked the more likely for the rest of the game. We just blew our chances.

I'd like to hear some stories from the older posters about those Golden days. Memorable games, players and anything else?

I went to the game on a school trip on the British railways school special. First trip to London let aline Wembley. 1000's of kids on the train.

My memory of the matches that e were by far the best team, Sammy Lloyd missed about 15 shots at goal he'd normally have backheeled over, Fred lindop disallowed about 7 tries we scored and rovers were their usual dirty cheating barstewards. I've never watched the game back so my memory may be slightly off but won't be by much.

Loads of great memories from the 80s. I feel sorry for those who never experienced the boulevard in its pomp or got to stand in threepenny. Great times.

Special mention to watching len casey get sent off at the old caravan park and us hammering them and sering us dismantle rovers in 83 to pretty much secure the league title

They where great days. Loved the 70s. Yes sometimes FC where poor but towards the end when Bunting arrived it certainly was exiting times. Boulevard even though a dark dismal place was a great ground for atmosphere especially the night matches. Loved the place.

The Len Casey sending off is probably my earliest memory of rugby league, so that must have been a tv game that I watched as a young kid.

I remember around that time seeing James Leuluai in town working on some scaffolding near or on Bob Carvers in market place and asking for his autograph.

I do vaguely remember Clive Sullivan working in the building society at the top of my street and us kids would go in all the time to see him.

Remember coming out of Wembley roaring. The prospect of getting home seeing my big brother who is a Rovers fan didn't help.

I also remember getting to school on the following Monday and rumours were flying around that Lindop admitted that he cheated us and the game would be replayed

I was at that game it was at the old Craven Park. It's on youtube I think. Casey got sent off and he had a bit of an altercation with the linesman as he was walking. It cost him the GB captaincy for the Oz tour. I think that was also the game he had a fight with Fred Ah Kuoi. To Fred's credit he got stuck in and landed more blows!

I have a memory of Fred Ah Kuoi breaking his jaw. Was that from that incident or was it something else?

Those Kiwis we had in those days were top international players and we had a few Great Britain internationals in there. It must have been a great team to watch?

Don't think it was that one mate. We never saw the best of Ah Kuoi which was a shame. He was the star of the '80 Kiwi tour. He was linked with us when we signed the other 3 kiwis but went to play for Norths in the old Winfield Cup. When he eventually did sign for us in '83 he wasn't the same player. Schofield mentioned it. While in Oz Ah Kuoi bulked up and lost some of his elusiveness. Still a good player though.

Do you think Schofield should have started in the 85 final?

And if so, would he have been in at centre instead of Evans or stand off instead of Fred? I know at that time Schofield was already the best British centre.
