Interview with Jake Trueman in The Mirror. I was hoping we'd see him by Easter but it sounds like he'll be out a bit longer than that.

Quote:Trueman is likely to sit out the opening two months of the campaign. But he insisted: “I can’t wait to get out there with a new club. It’s been a tough couple of years with injuries but I shouldn’t miss too much of the new season. The knee’s coming along well. I’ve just started running again on Alt G so I’m hoping to be back at the end of April or early May.”

Its disappointing but the previous physio team did try to bring players back too early after injury and we suffered with repeat injuries.Tuimavave was a prime example.
I said previously we should be looking at our conditioning and physios and was criticised by many on here so i am pleased we now have a much more cautious approach from this new regime

Lets hope the new regime brings results off the pitch as well as on. We can cope with a couple out but not half the first choice XVII.

We have options until Trueman can play. McNamara to the halves or play Hoy there and Shaul at full back.

Shaul to full back wouldnt surprise me as he is really putting a shift in in training and will start the season in top condition.
That said from a personal point of view i would like Smith to play Hoy at full back whilst Trueman is missing but a lot will depend on how he sees McNamara.
I guess we will learn more how Smith sees it after the pre season games

Disappointed he's out for so long still. Big chance for McNamara

Will Savelio miss the start too?

Disappointing, was hoping for sooner.

I'd definitely keep Hoy at fullback and I think Smith will, so between McNamara and Lovodua at 6, hopefully McNamara can show his potential in the first team like he has at other levels.

As others have said it’s disappointing Trueman will still be missing for a while yet however it’s better to have back only when fully fit rather than risk set backs caused by pushing him too soon.

I would hope that Smith goes with Hoy at FB from the start with McNamara in the halves. For me before Ben suffered his injury setback he was our best half by some margin and alongside Clifford I think he would be a good foil. Think the influence of Smith will also improve him too.

I really enjoy long walks especially when they are taken by people I don't like!

cant see why most are surprised he will be missing the first couple of months, when we announced the signing, his return date was late spring time irrc!

Perhaps some thought that JakeConnor may have forgotten to take his “magic boot” but there again, he must have taken it with him, considering he’s supposed to be ready for round one?

    From a recent Connor interview:

"People who know me know I've not always been as professional as others but I've got better each year and I think I'll do the same this year. My knee has been battered for four or five years, I've played with a biscuit knee basically. To get that fixed, not have a problem with that, I'm sure I'll have the best year to date."

Hopefully his knee problems are behind him, but that quote doesn't fill you with much confidence.

On Trueman, I was hoping he'd just miss the opening few rounds and be good to go. Maybe the new S&C team are taking the a more cautious approach.
