Another great read with so much recalled by me about events you mention. Three stand out:
1. The 1965 derby was the last league derby I attended before leaving England in 1966 after seeing them all from 1945/46. Dad had a car so no problem in getting home for a later than normal Christmas Day feast. Believe Rovers won the first one I saw at Craven Park too.
2. I learned to play golf on the Sutton Golf course aged 12. My uncle was a member and my tutor. I had my dad's battered old shoulder strap bag which had about 3 more clubs than you. Played once a week for about 18 months before giving the game away.
3. My best mate at Flinton Grove junior school lived in the large house at the entrance to Eastern Cemetery, his dad being the manager/ caretaker ( Mr Allcroft). Spent almost more time at his house than at mine. I lived in Marfleet Lane in a block of 10 houses near the station. In those days it was almost a direct line form my house to his, being farms and fields with about a 10 min journey negotiating ditches and barbed wire fences. No housing estates, schools or rugby stadiums around then!
Thanks again for your latest diaries which have brought back so many memories of my early years in Hull.
