I think this has been alluded to before but what's the deal with the scope of the big meeting this week - is it to determine the comp format for 2018 and beyond - who is in attendance? Saw the Wakey chairman mention it.

I hope they all kick off about the double game weekend again. So many players sat in the stands injured and playing injured is affecting the sport as a spectacle

Expanding to 14 teams which is why rovers are dishing out contracts beyond this season to the likes of carney

Ah right, thought it was something like that. Presumably all clubs are represented then, not just current top tier?

Can't change who gets into SL for next year as the format is already agreed and in place. surely any team missing out would be able to take the RFL to the cleaners if they are denied a rightful place in the big boys league.
it'd be a bit like a reverse version of Cas/Wigan were Wigan were allowed to cheat the cap by the RFL so they could ensure they stayed up. Move the goalposts after the fact to allow some teams to benefit that flies in the face of the rules you had in place in the first instance.

Why can't they just leave the format alone rather than fiddle with it every other year? this years SL is the closest ever, with all teams having had good and bad spells. Explaining a constantly changing format to non-RL fans is difficult as it is.

The Championship is also a lot more vibrant with promotion on offer and Rovers & Bradford being big name teams down there attracting bigger crowds.

Also the sports has had its fingers burnt parachuting teams straight in to SL before, Toronto & Toulouse and growing, doing well and making an impact by starting from league1, again why change something that is working?

Maybe they should have the courage of their convictions and retain a formula that is relatively new.
I'm not a big fan of the format, but constantly changing the make up of the league makes the RFL look even more inept.

I quite like that they try new things and over the years there have been some great successes like summer rugby, Magic weekend etc. As you say though the frequency of format change, franchising vs promotion U turns and so on reduces credibility and must make planning for clubs really challenging. I think that promotion should stay but there are a couple of grounds that are just not fit for purpose IMO which under franchising might have ended up being sorted sooner - that was a benefit of the licence system IMO.
