Those that weren't there that day ask your dad and for those that were enjoy. I'm pretty sure I can see myself going barmy on there
Remember being halfway up the hill gordon street end and watching "Porkies" arris vanishing into the distance and wondering if he would make the 25 Top game that was

I was in threepenny's and it went mental. Think it was when the back of the stand was closed due to H&S and the camera was behind the fans
Some good old stuff on youtube including some video of sammy lloyd kicking goals from the touch line with one of the old balls from a hole he'd dug into the ground with his heel. He'd be awesome with a modern ball and a kicking tee

Was stood just to the left of the scoreboard. I distinctly remember many screaming for the ball to go wide after Pearce broke through. Check out Kevin Dicks celebration. Magnificent try.

Not sure why its got that date on it. The game footage is when we sealed the title in 1983.
You'll never ever see a better game breaker that that one in 1988. I certainly won’t anyway in 60 odd years. Good old Porky eh what a step and run out of defence on a glue pot of a pitch?
Looking at it now it seems a bit ordinary but that afternoon it was so special for every one of us who were there. Ok you watch it on you tube and say. So what? But in the context of how we were playing, our demise in the league, the arrogance of Wigan back then and that season as a whole and it was simply amazing. We had kicked off after a Wigan try that drew both teams level and our start went straight into touch. The video is actually Wigan' attempt at getting two points from a penalty after the hooter had gone.
It's still the best end to a game after Danny Houghton’s try saver at Wembley that I can remember.
However, without any prejudice intended to Rovers some Salford fans would I guess disagree for their amazing come-back last week will, in say ten year’s time, be seen as just as amazing. For it was so unlikely and so totally unpredictable. It was a phenomenal end to a game that the visitor never looked like winning, just as we as the home team didn’t back in 1988. Rovers were odds on favourites until 6 seconds from the end and that's quite an amazing scenario and something that should not happen to a team that had dominated so much throughout the game.
The Rovers fans won't like that but it's something that should have never happened but did! In the pubs and clubs in Salford in a few decades time what happening last weekend will seem just so unlikely and an amazing happening just as that 1988 try did back in the bad old days! Great memories!!
