Fascinating viewing. The game is hard enough today but in those days it was incredible dangerous. Reading Tony Collins book "Rugby's Great Split" (which I would recommend) there were 12 fatalities from the split in 1895 to 1909.

I also wondered how many of those young men didn't come home to play Rugby League again 12 years later, very sad thought. Absolutely a fascinating watch, they had belts keeping their shorts up! And how great is it to see the Boulevard looking how it would have been originally or thereabouts?

Have known about the existence of these for a while now. Unfortunately these BFI videos are blocked for viewing in certain areas and Australia is on that list. There is another showing Hull City playing a friendly at the Boulevard in 1904(thought to be their first ever match).
