I think Hull will take over from Leeds as the S/L model for other clubs to aspire to. Their pathway from scholarship to first team is excellent and their British based approach is very welcome. Too many clubs carry too many average aussies and Hulls record in this aspect of recruitment, though not perfect, is much better than most if not all other S.L clubs.

It should be quality not quantity as far as overseas recruitment goes.

Could not agree more. As you say Hull are not perfect by any means by we have a really solid base to work from and see to have the right structures in place for the future.

And on this basis could be potentially not even bother filling the space vacated by Byrne with an overseas player, knowing the allowance will reduce next year we will already be ahead of the game.

Maybe so, we need to think long and hard about the balance between giving the youngsters their chance and getting the right experience to play alongside them. Too much exposure to young players can have a negative effect.

It can, but it can also have a hugely positive effect depending on them individually.

I agree but a lot depends on if they are playing in a struggling side or a winning one and also the types of leaders/experience they have around them.

If they are quality players (R.Horne,Tomkins,Westerman,Shenton) It is irrelevant if the team is struggling when they are brought into the team. If you want to bring through average players (clough, tyrer, Gardener) then the team needs to be doing well for them to gel.

I can see both sides of the arguement TBH. Its probably easier for a young kid to come into the team if they are surrounded by experienced players playing well but the real class players will take to it no matter how they are playing.
