Chris71 wrote:However you look at the signing of Jones he has been a huge disappointment. When he signed the contract he and his wife knew where Hull was and that he would have to either relocate or commute, yet he still signed. So unless somehow Hull has moved to the other side of the world then not being able to settle is load of bolIox. As Wilf mentioned he seemingly never integrated or mixed with the team from the start so never really gave it a chance as such was never going to ‘settle’ so he didn’t want to be here, so why sign?
For 5 years I commuted to Deeside and when offered the job I knew it meant either moving or commuting. I spoke about it with my wife and decided to take the job. The travelling at times was a pain but I didn’t need to settle as I still lived in Hull and saw my wife every day. After 4 years I decided that we would either have to move west or look for another job nearer home. I eventually chose to get a job nearer home but saw out my 5 year contract.
So I just don’t see why sports people seem to find that so hard to do and no doubt on far more than most of us are on.
ATEOTD it’s just an excuse to hide behind, no one forced him sign for Hull he chose to.

Did you travel by car? If you did congratulations. 280 miles, 16 litres of fuel, over five hours behind the wheel every day for five years takes some commitment.

Thanks for that I was just going by two separate reports which said

"The 25-year-old has signed a two-year deal with the club after the Giants beat Castleford and Hull FC to his signature".

Lazy reporting or poor proof reading

Yes by car and some days were a lot longer than 5 hours though and could do it in just over 2hrs each way depending on timings. The car was leased by the company i was working for and was given fuel and travel allowance as I didn’t take a relocation deal. The first couple of years weren’t too bad but then it started getting a bit of a chore hence why I decided it was either move west to be nearer or get a job closer to home.
In the end a job closer to home was the decision and once that was made the travel seemed easier as I knew it was coming to an end.
I have no regrets about doing it as it was a good opportunity despite the hours travelling.

I really enjoy long walks especially when they are taken by people I don't like!

Even if it is true it's only an offer. But a fun off season rumour.

I'm not 100% sure on this one, 36 years old (When the season starts), lacks pace, is he worth playing more than the likes of Austin, Hastings and Seizer?

One good thing though is half his salary will be paid by extra passholders this type of signing would attract.

Although not is the HDM is right and we have offered him 400K.

That would be madness, we could sign 2/3 top players for that amount of money.

Much as I like Benji, we don't need to be signing players of his age. With the amount of money which we will allegedly have from the departing players, we can afford to be more selective and one of the main criteria must be length of possible career with us. I hope when Bret gets here he's allowed some input into the type of player we need to sign.
