The knock to the head could fracture the skull or break the skin but it’s the actual motion of the impact. When boxers get cracked on the chin, again it’s the motion that causes the the concussion. The inside of the cranium is not smooth but it’s jagged to hold the brain which is also not smooth. The fast whipping motion causes the brain to move within the cranium which in turn gets damaged. Boxers mostly get hit about the face or side of the head and lots of brain injury can cause “punch drunk”, that’s the slow deliberate speech as if drunk. A skull cap will not save the brain getting damaged but protects the skin and the ears. The only way to offer head protection is to play with a crash hat like the yanks in their footy game, NFL.'"
