Freddie Miller. wrote:Think I may have confused you HR. Nothing to do with my user name on here but everything to do with my actual name. So a player in the 1970 Ashes win who featured in 2 winning games. I am 100% certain Rider knows the answer.
Re Freddie Miller. He was my favourite player when I first started watching Hull aged 8 back in the mid-40's and was loved by the Boulevard crowd so no surprise to learn of your dad being his biggest fan.
Just a final bit of trivia. My mum knew FM's family very well and when my parents ran a pub in the 'Old Town' around the start of WW2 my mum told me that on a few occasions FM babysat me.

They're the team I most enjoy watching in the NRL , Cody Walker and Latrell Mitchell are seriously talented, wouldn't mind either here at Hull. That is why I was talking about the World Cup- if they bring a squad remotely resembling the strongest they can pick , it'll be a massacre, when you think that if players are picked in their club positions, at full back its either Mitchell, Tedesco or Trebojovic (spelling). Wow! Surely they'll revert to the origin selections and find a place for all 3. Throw Stephen Crichton, Zak Lomax, Reimus Smith, Jason Saab, Ado Carr, Munster and Hughes into the mix and that is frightening.
I think our Freddie, is referring to the Freddie Miller who played for Hull & Featherstone, he was I think inducted to the Fev Hall of Fame, and I remember talk of the Freddie Miller gates at the ground, though I never managed to see them.
The possible confusion could be a Fred Miller who played even earlier in the 1800s who was a rugby Union forward, but on Wikipedia it has him down as also playing for Hull, not sure this is correct, but I’ve not double checked, and is way before my time.

Back on topic, we need a strong defensive performance at Cas, and not fall into all the hype of Cas being out of form etc, make no mistake Radders & Cas will be targeting this game, and only our best will be good enough, they are desperate for a win.
Glad Sav is back, he should shore the middle up with Evans, keep it tight in defence, then let Connor open them up.

Freddie played for Hull from 1932 to 1950 before leaving for Featherstone. I went to see him play at Wembley in 1952 but his team was outgunned by a Workington side captained by a true legend of the game- Gus Risman.
I have a photo somewhere from 1985 showing my wife and me standing outside the FM memorial gate shown in the blog about him below. I believe the gate is still there.

Of those 8 you'd say 6 are in our first choice 17, not great is it? Seem to get a couple back and lose a couple.
I've not seen any official mention of McIntosh or Wynn not being available (only seen it on facebook) but I'm sure we'll find out today when the squad is announced.BH has mentioned about the loss of Carlos & Cam Scott and touched on Cator & Mau's absence along with Tag but nothing about McIntosh as yet so fingers crossed.
I really enjoy long walks especially when they are taken by people I don't like!

Tickets still on sale from the club.
Can you still pay on the gate at Cas? I won't know if I can go until Sunday morning.
