Pretty equal, both have strengths and weaknesses, you have probably seen Rankin in the halfs were he is pretty average, he's a good FB.
Shauls on the naughty step, seems a mirror image of what happen to Crooks which concerns me.

Not to mention that he will likely be arrested when he returns home for the off season, and guilty or not may well find himself unavailable for the start of the season.
Would you go home knowing your going to be arrested I've a feeling he might hang around Europe as long as he can
einstien said insanity is when a person does the same thing over and over again but expects a different result

Rankin is just a better rounded player for me. Shaul is the better broken field runner (but Rankin is good in this area too), he's also better under a high ball. Rankin comes into the line better, he also has better positioning and organises the line better. There's not much to choose in speed, support play and tackling.
Shaul I suppose is the more likely to do something spectacular, but we look a better attacking outfit with Rankin there.
Ok thanks as a post says above i have only mainly seen him as a half so maybe I shouldn't judge his as a full back and it's been nice coming over here actually talking about rugby without it turning into a c@ck measuring contest

how many games has shaul won us?
radford doesnt like shauls' attitude so he wont play him, rankin seems odds on to leave, both have different qualities

You ar right they have different qualities. It should be a strength for the club to have 2 good players pushing for the FB role, possibly 3 with naughton. But we have to many "professionals" in sport dropping their purses as soon as a bit of competition comes along, & that is the attitude coaches won't put up with.

Rankin may be a decent player but as soon as he fins form he'll fook off back to the nrl and we'll be full back less again. Weve got a good one here now in Shaul - if the club is gonna let him go for no reason other that he isnt one of Radfords FRIENDS then we are well and trully FCUKED!!!!

The sport is littered with players who had "great potential" and never achieved it. Jordan Tansey, Omari Caro, Greg Eden, Rob Roberts, Craig Hall. 3 of those went through our club.
Not everyone who has a good game sometimes can maintain it.

Completely agree with you on this.
Shaul is an off the cuff player, but it could be argued that he is a luxury player and as a side only just in 8th position we are not in a place to have luxury players. If we are in the top 4 with some distance to 5th place Shaul all day long.
