[exturl][/exturl]Whilst these signings aren't overly exciting, we have to put it in context that we are starting again, almost like a newly promoted team.
Everyone was critical of Leigh signing these players last year but they were exactly what they needed at the time. We are currently in the same boat.
We have a lot of young inexperienced players coming through so hopefully these signings will provide the balance and maturity we need to stabilise the team next season. Although I do feel the length of contract to be too long in some cases. I hoping these signings are cheap due to quality we have coming in from the NRL.
The team is already stronger for next season and that is all we can hope for and that every season we continue to build.
We have to judge the strength and depth of the squad only when our recruitment is complete.
These players whilst old and slow are also experienced winners and hopefully a small part of the jigsaw.

Here is what they will say

When a club as big as Hull FC come knocking and offer you unbelievable money and a long term contract so i can see my playing days out without having to do much and having no competition for my postion apart from some young lads who may make the grade in about three years.
How could i turn that down

Honestly not sure why you bother, you sound like you hate the club.

Apart from Asiata, it's very similar, Cartwright is an unknown as Okunbor was at the start of this season, lane and Holmes are very similar, lane less injury prone, Cust isn't a hooker despite the spin team saying otherwise, Abdul overweight and has injury problems, lafai and sailor haven't signed so you can't compare them and briscoe and McIntosh are similar, McIntosh had more pace, briscoe less errors, neither are threats to opposition wingers, I'd probably have kept Sutcliffe over Hardakre

Happy enough with Chamberlain as a replacement for Scott, but not necessarily as a starting player and not for 3 years. Decent age and experience, but not exactly exciting.

Holmes adds experience and is arguabley a better replacement for Cator.

Hardaker replacement for Carlos - similar age and experience, Zak played more than Carlos, will be cheaper and off quota.

That’s the way I see it. Cheaper and better (?) replacements for those players.

We’ve added Abdul and Asiata as ‘big’ signings. Cartwright to bulk the second row. Bourouh doesn’t replace Houghton, but I’d hope we go for two hookers rotating rather than flog one. Cust is a strange one, unless Trueman really is leaving - similar ages and Cust has the experience at higher level. Expecting two more ‘bigger’ names, otherwise it’s an improvement but way off play off standard.

Sailor and Lafai would make the whole make up of the recruitment much better but signing that PNG full back makes me wonder whether we are looking at that level.

Dave K. wrote:Whilst not over exciting, the fact is still that these are better than what we have so improve us. Look who others have signed, hardly loads of great players available.

You also have to remember we are currently 11th and won two games, plus moving to Hull, hardly the most enticing club as it stands.

Plus as been mentioned loads of times, we will have been late to the party, by the time Myler joined most of the decent players where signed elsewhere.

I agree next two signings are key, add in Cust, Sailor, new centre and another forward and we are looking a alot better than this year.

Well said Dave. Just can't seem to get through to some people on here unfortunatley.
That's without the new coach and hopefully extra additions.

I'm not getting carried away, but there is alot of overacting on here.

Nearly as much overreaction on here than you'd find on a Facebook group.
Decent solid signings to supplement the young players coming through.
Myler has said recruitment and retention is also based on succession planning. He doesn't want to block the pathways of players already in the system, and who they have hopes for.
We'd all be moaning if we signed Rimbu and released Balformth.
Hardaker, Holmes and Chamberlain won't be on huge money. Chamberlain will be an astute signing.
Plus we're still not finished. Keep calm.

You can see the logic I signing bang average and injury prone players if you want to play your youngsters. Great strategy to build the next 2 or 3 years on. There could even be a few thousand still turning up to watch us lose every week
