Personally we are seriously lacking a big powerhouse prop and have been since Carvell left so Lauaki signing was exactly what we needed. We do also need a SH but there was little option for this season.
Thing is, have we actually tried to sign a 7 during this season? While I'm not saying we shouldnt have signed Lauaki there were options, Witt for one

Witt is a 6, good player though. Was he ever actually available or was it just rumour?

The pack was IMO absolutely the right place to start putting things right. All successful sides have a good or great pack, because without them to build a platform your backs are going to struggle no matter how good they are.
100% correct IMO. When was the last time Hull's pack 'owned' the opposition pack ? Many moons ago I reckon. The game has changed a fair bit over recent years but the requirement for a tough no nonsense pack hasn't. Our forwards have been the main reason for poor performances for a long time now and getting shut of some and replacing with proven quality is exactly the right thing to do.
