I do read these pages and I don't recall anyone calling him rubbish. People have pointed out the weaknesses in his game which is fair enough as there are some.

There is n fair enough.its funny really because all last pre season n generally all yr I said I'd of started Azza n benched danny to maximize his strengths n minimise his weaknesses n here I am going into bat for him cos I feel it's overstated on his weaknesses n understated on his strengths imo

Houghton should be the guy bringing a bit of speed and enthusiasm off the bench. Not the guy who is expected to control the game. That's not him and I doubt it ever will be now.
So he's another player wasted and ruined by our useless succession of coaching teams just like Horne in a way

Good coachin should of made both players better. Instead they stagnated and with Horne took abuse for not being a world beater and now Houghton who's possibly jumping ship even though he loves FC but realises that he can only possibly achieve success elsewhere
Houghton gets criticism from me because he simply makes the wrong decision a lot more often than others. He'll give it to anyone who shouts on last tackle instead of looking for his halfback. He rarely steps out of acting half to pass, instead passing from the floor. This enables the defenders to get 3 in the tackle more often than not. If he stepped out and engaged the first defender we'd get more wins and it would speed our play up. He has a lot of strengths too. Although he does it a lot less nowadays, his scooting is still top drawer and if he spots a gap he's at it. He has one of the best kicking games for a hooker in the league and his defensive stats speak for themselves.
