But if the aim was to finish top to be the champions, then clubs would approach it a different way.
We went all out for it in 2016, and almost won a treble, but we ran out of steam in the final furlong. Maybe Radford has learnt from that, and is managing our tilt at the crown differently?

Season would be all but over for clubs currently in places 3-10 applying your system. Not enough sustained interest.

Indeed, as the saying goes, "you can only play whats in front of you", and that includes the competition format.

I suspect there's a bit of "what we have we hold" in that the last 4 seasons have been amongst our best in a generation, and in the context of a Grand Final success glass ceiling we have more to lose than win. At least we have a Jekyll. Without it we'd be mired in the crappy relegation dogfight.
How true that is and it's not lost on me. You just look at the best in the comp and want to be better! I just think if we come away empty handed this season some of those heavy defeats which have crept into our results in the last couple of seasons will be blamed. Attitude is everything. Ours just needs to be good more often.

You’re, of course, entitled to that preference. In some ways I share it - that most games are played to win a prize derided as the hubcap isn’t brilliant imo.
Do you regard the Hull teams of 1955-56 and and 1957-58 as not true champions, because they finished the league seasons in 4th place?
There were one or more seasons when you finished top but didn’t win the Championship final, i’m pretty sure, but I don’t have time to check which now.

Saw the blood spurt from his face as soon as it happened and thought it bad at the time but that is far worse than I envisaged. A true warrior but can't believe he's thinking of playing Thursday.
